A gourmet twist on the classic grilled cheese, this Wonton Crab Grilled Cheese is crispy, cheesy, and packed with savory crab flavor. Made with golden-fried wonton wrappers instead of bread, and filled with creamy cheese and tender crab meat, it’s the perfect fusion of comfort food and elegant Asian-inspired flavors.
In a mixing bowl, combine the crab meat, cream cheese, shredded mozzarella, sesame oil, green onions, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir gently until everything is well mixed.
Lay out 8 wonton wrappers on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 to 2 tablespoons of the crab mixture into the center of each wrapper. Top with another wrapper and press gently around the edges to slightly seal them.
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and add a small amount of butter or oil. Once hot, place the filled wonton sandwiches into the skillet, a few at a time.
Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crisp, and the cheese is melted. Flip carefully with a spatula.
Transfer to a plate and let cool for 1–2 minutes before serving. Cut into halves or quarters if serving as an appetizer.
Use fresh or canned crab depending on your preference and availability. If using canned, be sure to drain it well.
Don’t overstuff the wrappers—about 1 to 2 tablespoons of filling per sandwich works best.
If you prefer extra crispiness, lightly brush the edges of the wrappers with oil before frying.
Serve with sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, or spicy mayo for dipping.
