Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and almond extract until the mixture is smooth.
  2. Add Flour: Gradually incorporate the all-purpose flour into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined to form a soft dough.
  3. Divide and Color Dough: Divide the dough into two equal parts. Add purple gel food coloring to one part and black gel food coloring to the other. Knead each portion gently until the color is evenly distributed.
  4. Shape the Spirals: Roll out each colored dough portion into flat rectangles of equal size. Place the purple dough on top of the black dough and sprinkle purple sprinkles on the purple layer. Carefully roll the stacked doughs into a tight spiral log.
  5. Chill the Dough: Wrap the spiral log in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to firm up for easier slicing.
  6. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Slice the Cookies: Remove the dough log from the refrigerator and, using a sharp knife, cut into 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick slices. Arrange the slices on prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Add Outer Sprinkles: Gently press black sprinkles onto the outer edges of each cookie slice for decoration.
