Ingredients

Scale

Salmon

  • 1 pound salmon, about 3 filets, skins removed, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Sauce

  • ¼ cup (½ stick / 57 g) unsalted butter
  • ½ cup (170 g) honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • green onions, for garnish
  • sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Salmon: Remove the skin from the salmon filets and cut the fish into 1-inch cubes. Pat the salmon pieces dry with a paper towel to ensure a better sear.
  2. Season the Salmon: In a bowl, toss the salmon cubes with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, and black pepper. Make sure all pieces are evenly coated with the seasoning.
  3. Cook the Salmon Bites: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned salmon cubes in a single layer without overcrowding the pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until the salmon is golden on the outside and cooked through but still moist inside. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  4. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and add the unsalted butter. Once melted, add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in the honey, soy sauce, white wine vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Simmer the sauce for 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  5. Combine Salmon and Sauce: Return the cooked salmon bites to the skillet and gently toss them in the honey garlic sauce, making sure each piece is well coated. Warm through for another minute to let the flavors meld.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Transfer the salmon bites to a serving plate. Garnish with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Serve immediately as an appetizer or with rice and steamed vegetables as a main course.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh salmon filet rather than frozen for better texture and flavor.
  • If you prefer less spice, reduce or omit the red pepper flakes.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed jasmine rice or sautéed greens like spinach or bok choy.
  • Ensure not to overcrowd the pan while cooking salmon to get a nice sear and avoid steaming the fish.
  • Leftover salmon bites can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated gently to prevent drying out.
