Margarita:
- 1 ½ oz tequila
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- ½ oz orange liqueur
- 1 ½ Tablespoon simple syrup, or more to taste
Simple Syrup:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
Salt Rim:
- 1 Tablespoon coarse salt, or kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- Finely grated zest from 1 lime
- Prepare the simple syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of granulated sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar fully dissolves. Remove from heat and let it cool completely before using.
- Make the salted lime rim: In a shallow plate, mix together 1 tablespoon coarse salt, 1 teaspoon granulated sugar, and the finely grated zest of 1 lime. Rub the rim of your glass with a lime wedge and then dip the rim into the salt mixture to coat evenly. Set the glass aside.
- Mix the cocktail: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add 1 ½ oz tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, ½ oz orange liqueur, and 1 ½ tablespoons of the cooled simple syrup. Shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds to combine and chill the ingredients.
- Serve: Strain the margarita mixture into the prepared glass, either over fresh ice or straight up according to preference. Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge if desired and enjoy immediately for the freshest taste.
Notes
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less simple syrup to suit your taste.
- For a spicier twist, add a slice of jalapeño to the shaker before mixing.
- Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor; bottled lime juice will affect the taste.
- Ensure simple syrup is fully cooled before adding to your cocktail to avoid diluting the drink.
- To make the simple syrup in advance, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
