4.9 from 93 reviews

A classic Margarita cocktail combining the smoothness of tequila with the citrusy brightness of lime juice and the sweet complexity of Grand Marnier, perfectly balanced with simple syrup and served with a salted rim and lime garnish.

Ingredients

Scale

Liquids

  • 8 ounces (1 cup) Tequila
  • 6 ounces (3/4 cup) Grand Marnier
  • 8 ounces (1 cup) lime juice, plus more to taste
  • 6 ounces (3/4 cup) simple syrup

Garnish & Extras

  • Salt for the rim (preferably Maldon sea salt)
  • Lime wedges for salt rim and garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glass rim: Rub a lime wedge around the rim of your glass to moisten it, then dip the rim into a plate of Maldon sea salt to coat evenly. Set aside.
  2. Mix the cocktail: In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the tequila, Grand Marnier, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup. Shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds until well chilled and blended.
  3. Serve: Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass over fresh ice if desired. Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim.
  4. Adjust to taste: If the cocktail is too tart, add a bit more simple syrup; if it’s too sweet, add extra lime juice. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For the simple syrup, combine equal parts sugar and water, heat until sugar dissolves, then cool completely before using.
  • Use freshly squeezed lime juice for the best flavor.
  • Choosing a high-quality tequila and Grand Marnier will significantly enhance the cocktail’s taste.
  • Adjust sweetener and lime juice based on personal preference.
