Ingredients

Scale

Fruit Mixture

  • 21 ounce can cherry pie filling
  • 20 ounce can crushed pineapple, thoroughly drained

Dressing

  • 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract

Additional Ingredients

  • 8 ounce tub whipped topping, thawed
  • 2 ¾ cup mini marshmallows (divide into 2 ½ cups and ¼ cup for garnish)
  • ½ cup finely chopped pecans
  • 4 maraschino cherries with stems attached (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Fruit Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cherry pie filling and thoroughly drained crushed pineapple. Stir gently to combine without breaking up the fruit too much.
  2. Mix Dressing: In a separate bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and almond extract until smooth and well incorporated.
  3. Combine Mixture and Dressing: Pour the condensed milk mixture over the fruit mixture. Add 2 ½ cups of mini marshmallows and the chopped pecans. Stir gently to evenly distribute all ingredients without crushing the fruit or marshmallows.
  4. Add Whipped Topping: Fold in the thawed whipped topping carefully to maintain a light and fluffy texture throughout the mixture.
  5. Chill Dessert: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow flavors to meld and the fluff to set.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Just before serving, garnish the top with the remaining ¼ cup of mini marshmallows and place maraschino cherries with stems as desired for a festive touch.

Notes

  • Make sure to thoroughly drain the pineapple to prevent excess liquid from making the dessert soggy.
  • Use fresh whipped topping for optimal light texture, but homemade whipped cream can be substituted.
  • This dessert tastes best when chilled for several hours or overnight.
  • For a nut-free version, omit the pecans or substitute with sunflower seeds.
  • Feel free to add shredded coconut for additional flavor and texture.
