Cheese Layer
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 3 tablespoons cream cheese
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon dried parsley
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
Spaghetti Crust
- ½ lb. spaghetti
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 2 eggs, whisked
- ½ cup parmesan cheese
Meat Sauce
- 1 lb. ground beef
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce (doesn’t add spiciness)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 24 oz. marinara sauce
Cheese Topping
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Cook the Spaghetti: Boil the spaghetti in salted water until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and toss with butter until coated. Let cool slightly.
- Prepare the Cheese Layer: In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, cream cheese, salt, dried basil, dried parsley, dried oregano, and pepper. Mix well until smooth and set aside.
- Make the Meat Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with diced onion and minced garlic until the beef is browned and onion is softened. Drain excess fat. Stir in hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and marinara sauce. Simmer for 10-15 minutes to blend flavors. Season with salt and pepper as needed.
- Form the Spaghetti Crust: In a large mixing bowl, combine cooled spaghetti and butter mixture with whisked eggs and parmesan cheese. Mix until evenly combined to help bind the crust.
- Assemble the Pie: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a pie pan or round baking dish. Press the spaghetti mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom and sides of the dish to create a crust.
- Add Cheese Layer: Spread the ricotta cheese mixture evenly over the spaghetti crust.
- Layer the Meat Sauce: Spoon the meat sauce over the cheese layer spreading evenly to cover.
- Top with Mozzarella: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the meat sauce.
- Bake the Pie: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese topping is melted, bubbly, and golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the spaghetti pie to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving so it holds together well.
Notes
- To prevent the spaghetti crust from becoming soggy, make sure the spaghetti is well drained and toss with butter before mixing with eggs and cheese.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter meat option.
- Leftover pie can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven for best results.
- Add extra veggies such as bell peppers or mushrooms to the meat sauce for more nutrition.
- If you prefer, use a mix of mozzarella and provolone cheese for a richer topping flavor.
