Ingredients

Scale

For the Filling:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (120 g)
  • 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped or minced
  • 2¼ cups grated mozzarella cheese (250 g)
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese (50 g)
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Dough:

  • 1 sheet ready-made puff pastry, chilled (not frozen)

For the Topping:

  • 2 tbsp melted butter (30 g)
  • Extra chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, combine the softened butter with finely chopped garlic, grated mozzarella, parmesan, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and spreadable.
  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Unroll the chilled puff pastry sheet onto a lightly floured surface. Using a rolling pin, gently roll it out to a thickness of about 3 to 4 mm, ensuring it’s thin enough to hold the filling but sturdy enough not to tear.
  3. Spread the Filling: Evenly spread the cheesy garlic butter mixture all over the surface of the rolled-out puff pastry, covering it from edge to edge to ensure each bite is flavorful.
  4. Roll the Pastry: Starting from one end, tightly roll the pastry into a log, similar to rolling a jelly roll or cinnamon roll, sealing the filling inside.
  5. Slice the Roll: Cut the rolled log into 6 to 8 equal pieces with a sharp knife. Place each piece cut-side up into a greased muffin tin, allowing space for rising and to form their signature cruffin shape.
  6. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Bake the cruffins in the muffin tin for 20 to 25 minutes until they puff up, turn golden brown, and fill your kitchen with a wonderful aroma.
  7. Add the Finishing Touch: Remove the baked cruffins from the oven and immediately brush their tops with melted butter for extra richness. Sprinkle with additional chopped fresh parsley for a vibrant, appetizing look.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter for the filling is softened to room temperature for easy mixing and spreading.
  • Chilling the puff pastry prior to rolling helps maintain its structure and flakiness during baking.
  • Adjust garlic quantity based on your taste preference for more or less pungency.
  • Use a sharp knife when slicing the roll to prevent squashing the layers.
  • Serve warm for the best gooey cheese experience.
  • Can be stored in an airtight container and reheated in an oven or toaster oven for a fresh-out-of-the-oven taste.
