Ingredients

Scale

Blueberry Lavender Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons culinary lavender
  • 1 cup blueberries

Martini

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 2 oz blueberry lavender simple syrup
  • Crushed ice
  • Fresh lavender sprigs (for garnish)
  • Lavender bitters (see recipe below)

Lavender Bitters

  • 3/4 cup dried lavender
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • Zest of 1/2 an orange
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla corn syrup
  • 5 cloves
  • 8 oz vodka (preferably 100 proof)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Blueberry Lavender Simple Syrup: In a saucepan, combine 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Add 2 tablespoons culinary lavender and 1 cup blueberries. Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes until the blueberries burst and the flavors meld. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve, pressing to extract juices. Let the syrup cool completely before use.
  2. Make the Lavender Bitters: In an infusing vessel with a tight-fitting lid, combine 3/4 cup dried lavender, 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger, zest of 1/2 an orange, 1 teaspoon vanilla corn syrup, 5 cloves, and 8 ounces of preferably 100 proof vodka. Seal the container and let it infuse for at least one week in a cool, dark place, shaking daily. After infusion, strain the bitters through a fine mesh strainer and store in a clean bottle.
  3. Mix the Martini: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add 2 oz vodka and 2 oz of the prepared blueberry lavender simple syrup. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to chill and blend the flavors.
  4. Serve: Strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass filled with crushed ice. Add a few dashes of the lavender bitters to the martini and garnish with fresh lavender sprigs for an elegant presentation.

Notes

  • Ensure the culinary lavender is food grade and free from pesticides.
  • The lavender bitters require at least one week to infuse to develop full flavor, so plan ahead.
  • The simple syrup can be stored refrigerated for up to two weeks.
  • Adjust the amount of simple syrup in the martini to taste for sweetness preference.
  • Use crushed ice to help chill the cocktail while slightly diluting to balance the flavors.
