A quick and flavorful 10-minute honey garlic shrimp recipe that combines succulent shrimp with a sweet and savory sauce, perfect for a fast weeknight dinner or a tasty appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Marinade

  • 450g/1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Sauce and Cooking

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 34 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste or grated ginger
  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp chili flakes, optional
  • 2 green onions, sliced for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Shrimp: In a medium bowl, toss the peeled and deveined shrimp with light soy sauce and cornstarch until evenly coated. This will help the shrimp stay tender and give a slight crisp when cooked.
  2. Prepare the Sauce: Mince the garlic cloves and grate or use ginger paste. Set aside the honey and chili flakes for easy access during cooking.
  3. Cook the Shrimp: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer and sear for about 1-2 minutes per side until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed, then sauté the minced garlic and ginger paste for about 1 minute until fragrant but not burnt. Stir in the honey and chili flakes, cooking for another minute until the sauce becomes slightly thickened.
  5. Combine and Finish: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss them in the honey garlic sauce until fully coated and heated through, about 1 minute.
  6. Serve: Transfer shrimp to a serving dish and garnish with sliced green onions. Serve immediately over rice or noodles if desired.

Notes

  • If you prefer a spicier dish, increase the amount of chili flakes or add fresh chopped chili.
  • Make sure not to overcook the shrimp to keep them juicy and tender.
  • You can substitute light soy sauce with tamari for a gluten-free option.
  • Serve with steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a balanced meal.
